Regulatory Agencies

The regulation in Uganda is done by Uganda Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board ULGRB is the body that regulates all forms of gambling. Taxes and Fees

Uganda imposes several taxes on gambling activities, payable in addition to licensing fees:

  • Gambling Tax: Deductions being made for payouts, the amount of money which has been staked is twenty percent of the total.
  • Online Gambling Tax: 20 percent of the total amount of money placed in a bet, less the payouts.
  • Sports Betting Tax: Thus, 20% of the total amount of money that was staked, excluding the payouts.
  • Online Sports Betting Tax: Payouts, percentage of total amount of money staked, less.
  • Lottery Tax: 20% of the total amount of the money that was staked, minus all the payouts.
  • Corporate Tax: All the Ugandan gambling companies have to pay 30% of the standard corporate tax.
  • Winnings Tax: This is on the basis of the Taxation Handbook of the Ugandan Revenue Authority (URA) under the taxation of gambling winnings, players are subjected to 15% tax.

Sports Betting in Uganda

Sports betting is allowed in Uganda thanks to the Lotteries and Gaming (Betting) Regulations of 2017. The regulations help in promoting fairness and accountability to the general public, therefore protecting the bettors.
